“PERSONAL BRANDING IS THE NEW MARKETING”

As a business owner, you are the face of your brand, and your branding photos should reflect that. You're not just offering a product or service—you're showcasing yourself and the experience clients have when working with you. If you're looking to attract your ideal audience, it's essential to know how to elevate your brand. Here's a tip: personal branding photography is now a must-have!

Here’s how building a personal brand can benefit your business:

Strengthen the “know, like, and trust” factor

Help you stand out in your market

  • Give people a reason to follow you beyond just your product or service
  • Provide flexibility to pivot your business in a new direction

And the best part? All of this leads to more sales!

Let’s be real—that’s one of the main reasons you started your business, right? That, and to make a meaningful impact.

Here’s the thing—traditional marketing doesn’t cut it anymore. People want to connect with real people, not just faceless companies. It’s more engaging that way. Imagine having people follow you simply because they love who you are. That’s the new normal. Here’s a stat that brings this home: 83% of millennials want the brands they support to align with their values.

HAVE A CLEAR VISION FOR YOUR BRAND

It might seem simple, but it’s more complex than you’d think.

  •  What do I want my images to convey about my personality and my brand?
  • What do I want the viewer to feel when they look at my photos? Inspired, motivated, calm, happy etc?
  • What makes your brand unique?
  • What value do you bring to the people you work with?
  • How do you want people to feel when they interact with your brand?

Make sure you can clearly define your brand and describe it with specific words. Are you a realtor, interior designer, personal trainer? Are you tough, strong, sophisticated, elegant, or calm? The more detailed you are, the easier it will be to capture the true essence of you and your brand.

PrOPS, WARDROBE, AND HMUA

When it comes to props, think about items you use regularly in your work. For example, if you're a fitness trainer, it’s a great idea to bring equipment like weights, a jump rope, or a water bottle.

Maybe you are a coach and want some images of you writing in a notebook. If you’re a florist then we'll want some photos of you with some gorgeous flowers. Perhaps you teach people about social media, in which case we can get some photos of you on your phone or taking photos. Also think about other things which show more of your personality. If you love handbags then definitely bring along your favourite bag to the shoot. Or maybe you’re really into essential oils, or business books. Anything that will help to tell the story of you.

Props can be living things! If you have a dog which is a big part of your story, please feel free to bring him/her along to the shoot if the venue is dog-friendly (I love animals!)

Or it could be that your partner/friend/client is a big part of your story. I’m happy for them to be included in some of the shoot too. If you have a logo, consider incorporating it into your shoot—it adds a personal touch to your brand.

And as I mentioned earlier, confidence is everything! Hiring a professional makeup artist (and possibly a hairstylist) is worth the investment. They know how to enhance your best features and use techniques specifically designed for photography, like expert highlighting and styling.
